Creativity and Real Estate

DIY your career.

Make your artistic & crafty side work for you.

My background is in the Arts, Education, & a little bit of Instructional Technology. So, as my spouse’s military career is starting to wind down {and all of the constant moving…this is our 12th move}, I kept thinking about what I wanted to do.

I have been considering Real Estate for a while, but I wasn’t sure if it was a true interest or just because I like to watch Fixer Upper. Even if I started years ago, it would have been very challenging to market myself in every new place I relocated to. Also, it didn’t seem like an obvious choice for the artistic person like myself. How do I figure out how to balance creativity while working in the housing market?

“…when you work in any creative field, you are fundamentally responsible for your success.”

First let me say that when you work in any creative field, you are fundamentally responsible for your success. That is true for the real estate industry as well. Also, I was drawn to the possibility of a more flexible work schedule because I do still homeschool my kiddos part-time.

Some of my pretty pictures…

How does working in Real Estate lend itself to encouraging creativity? Here is my list:

  • Being a good observer
  • Traveling in your own backyard {and having a valid reason to try every restaurant within a 15 mile radius}
  • Photography
  • Staging
  • Designing Marketing Material
  • Open House Party Planning
  • Event planning
  • Having a legitimate excuse to watch HGTV
  • Community Outreach
  • Designing educational materials for clients and other agents

I am sure there are more that I am not even thinking about right now. But, this list reminds me of my Arts Education training. One of the biggest things I took away from that entire experience was that no matter what industry you work in, constantly bettering yourself and embracing your creative side will have a huge impact on your success.
